Art In Bloom Expands to Feature Both Floral and Fashion Designs at the Springfield Art Museum

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 

Springfield, MO. (April 20, 2023) – The Springfield Art Museum is pleased to present Art In Bloom from Friday, April 28 through Sunday, April 30 throughout the Museum’s galleries. This is the fourth Art In Bloom event that the Museum has hosted since 2018. This year, 20 local floral and fashion designers will interpret works of art on view in their chosen medium, flowers and custom-made garments.

Art In Bloom includes juried prize categories for featured designers, People’s Choice Awards, floral arranging workshops, Museum retail, local vendors, and family art-making activities. To date, Art In Bloom has welcomed over 4,800 patrons, raised over $62,000 for art acquisitions, and awarded $6,500 in prize money to local designers. The Museum has purchased work by 19 artists, 16 of whom were not previously represented in the Museum’s permanent collection, with funds raised through Art In Bloom.

This year’s juried prizes for floral design will be selected by the three previous Art In Bloom Best in Show Award Winners: Audry McMannis Sowards - Schaffitzel's Flowers (2018), Sarah Rein - Rosewood Floral (2019), and Pam Carroll and Raleigh Jones - Wickman's Garden Village (2022). Juried prizes for fashion design will be awarded by: Sarah Buhr – Springfield Art Museum, Justin Gannaway – Drury University, and Ria Shaar – Bass Pro Shops.

Flowers in water and/or potted plants are not permitted in the Museum, so please plan to shop on your way out or plan to store your purchase in your vehicle before entering Art In Bloom.

PAID Public Events

Tablescape Floral Arranging Workshop: Community Room. Saturday, April 29, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Led by Art In Bloom 2022 Best in Show Award Winner Raleigh Jones from Wickman's Garden Village.

Tropical Floral Arranging Workshop: Community Room. Sunday, April 30, 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Led by Kim Hardin and Amy Darrt from Mears Floral Products.

Workshops will SELL OUT. Tickets must be purchased in advance at www.sgfmuseum.org/229/Art-In-Bloom or by calling (417) 837-5700.

In addition to the juried cash prizes for designers, the public can purchase People’s Choice Award ballots all weekend long in the Museum’s Lobby for $2 per vote. People’s Choice Award Winners in each category receive a $500 cash prize. The Springfield Art Museum is located at 1111 East Brookside Drive. Admission is always free. Donations are gratefully accepted.
