FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Springfield, MO. (March 23, 2023) – The Springfield Art Museum is pleased to announce that Watercolor USA 2023 will feature 70 works from 70 contemporary artists working in watermedia, representing 25 states. The 62nd exhibition of Watercolor USA was selected by juror and prolific watercolorist Keiko Tanabe, AWS, NWS, AIS, LPAPA.

Two hundred and twenty-four artists from 41 states entered 366 works for consideration. Fifty-eight of the 224 artists submitting their work for consideration were new entrants. Tanabe had the unenviable task of narrowing those entries down into a sampling of the very best in contemporary American watermedia. Unique among the many juried watercolor exhibitions across the country, Watercolor USA is exhibited in a museum setting and the Museum frequently acquires and continues to exhibit work from the show in focus exhibitions.

A number of cash prizes, artist materials awards, and possible purchase awards from both the Museum and the Watercolor USA Honor Society totaling approximately $20,000 will be announced prior to the opening of the exhibition on June 10. An opening reception, sponsored by the Southwest Missouri Museum Associates (SMMA), will be held Friday, June 9 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM and will be free and open to the public.

See Watercolor USA 2023 from June 10 through September 3, 2023 in the Weisel and Kelly Galleries. The 2023 Exhibition Season is presented by Friends of the Springfield Art Museum, Inc. This exhibition is sponsored, in part, by Simmons Bank Private Wealth. The Springfield Art Museum is located at 1111 East Brookside Drive in Springfield, Missouri. Admission is always free. Donations are gratefully accepted.
