FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Springfield, MO. (April 26, 2021) – The Springfield Art Museum is pleased to announce the return of the Missouri State University MFA Showcase exhibition. This special exhibition, produced in collaboration with the Missouri State University Art + Design department, features five bodies of thesis works by Master of Fine Arts candidates in the MFA Visual Studies program at Missouri State University.
This year marks the fourth year of this collaboration between Missouri State University and the Springfield Art Museum. This year’s exhibition presents works by Jennifer Rose Wolken, Tristan B. Miller, Casaundra Beard, Neal Polallis, and Vladan Djordjevic. These MFA candidates will be showing work in a variety of media. This exhibit had to be cancelled in 2020 due the COVID-19 pandemic, when Polallis and Djordjevic were originally scheduled to present their work. As a result, they are included in this year’s exhibiting group.
Over the last several years, this showcase developed as a way to fill a month-long gap in the Museum’s exhibition calendar that normally exists between two of its most well-attended exhibits, the annual All School Exhibition and Watercolor USA. The Missouri State University MFA Showcase exhibition provides an opportunity for the Museum to show more local art, while extending the recognition of incredible student talent in our region by expanding exposure to the work being produced in educational settings across our community. This show is curated and installed by the MFA students under the guidance of, and with the assistance of, the Museum’s curatorial staff.
PUBLIC PROGRAMS: All public programs and events remain cancelled through July 1, 2021 in accordance with the Yellow Phase of the City of Springfield, MO Road to Recovery Plan. Face masks are required in accordance with City of Springfield, MO ordinance and social distancing is encouraged.
See the Missouri State University MFA Showcase exhibition May 1 - 23, 2021 only in our Weisel and Kelly Galleries. This exhibition is generously underwritten by Howard & Nadia Cavner. The Springfield Art Museum is located at 1111 East Brookside Drive. Admission is always free. Donations are gratefully accepted.
