Field Trips

The Springfield Art Museum is a great place to learn! We can customize field trips to make connections between our collection and your curriculum, and to meet the needs of your students. Our field trips, which emphasize open-ended inquiry and interactive learning, are offered free of charge. To schedule a field trip, contact the Museum Educator Jenny Schwartzberg at or (417) 874-2861.

5th Grade Tours

Each fall, over 2,000 fifth-graders visit the Springfield Art Museum for docent-led tours. Students are encouraged to wonder, observe and interpret and to think of the Museum and its collection as their own. This program is made possible by a dedicated corps of volunteer docents and by SMMA, which provides transportation for all participating schools.

Placeworks provides arts residencies and field trips to school districts that are members of the Rural Schools Partnership at no cost to the participating school. More information here.

Art@Work is a collaboration between the Springfield Art Museum, Springfield Public Schools and the Missouri Job Center. A teaching artist and a jobs specialist work with 4th graders at Boyd Elementary and Williams Elementary each month to develop skills needed in the workforce through arts learning.
